Buying the Right Printer

A few important points to consider when buying a new printer

When purchasing a new printer there are two main things to bare in mind, firstly "what am I going to use the printer for?" Photo printing, text printing or a combination of both? There are a number of printers from the main manufacturers Epson, Canon, Lexmark, Dell, Brother and so on and you will need to look at the specification on these printers to get the best one for the job.

The second thing you need to look at when purchasing your new printer is the cost of printing, some printer manufacturers such as Dell and Lexmark give their printers away for free or vastly reduce the price when you purchase a new PC system. Why? There are no cheaper compatible cartridges for these brands so the manufacturers know they are going to recoup their money very quickly when you come to replace the printer cartridges for these models.

This is how it works. With Epson and Brother and some Canon inkjet printers there are compatible printer cartridges available, these are compatible printer cartridges that are manufactured by a third party that are at a fraction of the cost of OEM ( original equipment manufacturer ) cartridges, so although you may at first pay a little more for the printer you will save this and much more, over the life of the printer, in fact the more you print the more you save.

With printer manufacturers such as HP, Lexmark, Dell and some Canon however, compatible cartridges are not available and therefore you are resigned to buy original cartridges at a high price. There is one saving factor in this and that is there are available remanufactured printer cartridges for these models, although not as cheap as printers that use compatible inkjet cartridges there is usually about a 40% savings on original ink cartridge prices compared to compatible printer cartridges where the saving is over 100%.

So to sum up, when purchasing a new printer try to choose a printer model that has compatible cartridges available for it. You can find out weither there are compatible or remanufactured cartridges available by looking on our website for the printer model you may be considering to purchase.

One more important thing to consider is that some printer manufacturers such as Philips and some Lexmark, Dell and Canon printers have cartridges that can only be used once. Therefore, there are no compatible or re-filled options available so each time you replace your cartridges the only option is to purchase original cartridges which can be very expensive.

We can also save you some more money when buying your printer. The best printers to buy are the ones that use separate cartridges for each colour. If you have a Printer that uses a black and a tri colour cartridge ( three colours, cyan, magenta and yellow in one cartridge ) and you are printing a lot of one colour then once that colour in the cartridge is depleted then the cartridge as a whole will stop working.

However, if your printer takes the colours as separate cartridges then if you use a lot of one colour you simply replace the single colour cartridge as it becomes empty, saving you money, single colour cartridge printers tend also to have cheaper compatible cartridges available for them, especially Epson, Brother and some Canon printers.

One last thing, when you purchase your new inkjet printer you should receive original cartridges with it, or you would not be able to print, but don’t expect to print for long as the cartridges you get with the new printer are usually the trial versions and have very little ink in them or reduced quantities, after all the printer manufacturers want you to buy their cartridges and that’s how they make their money. The cartridges you buy from our website are full content versions and will give you a huge amount of printing compared to the trial versions.
