Well there are very good reasons, the first being the amount of ink cartridges that are thrown into landfill every year, which amount to 10,s of millions, so it makes sense to re use these printer cartridges and stop this from happening.
The second reason and important for the individual, is savings. Recycled ink cartridges tend to be on the whole 40% cheaper than the original printer cartridges and a few companies including Printcartridgedirect.com fill their remanufactured ink cartridges far in excess of the original cartridge ink content, giving you more value for money.
What are the down sides of using a remanufactured ink cartridge? Well, there are a couple. Some small ink companies with no facilities for refilling see the opportunity to earn money from this and simply get the empty cartridge and refill it using a syringe, then seal and box, and send it out. Maybe in the days gone by but you cannot simply do this now, the modern ink cartridge is a complicated item, containing hundreds of small jets that must be tested, even if a few are blocked this can greatly affect the cartridge performance, there are now modern machines to test these inkjets and any ink cartridges that do not pass the test are rejected.
Then there is the print head, this is a delicate electrical component and this also must pass stringent tests. Only when the remanufactured cartridge passes these criteria is it passed for filling. The cartridge is then vacuumed to remove all previous inks, this is an important stage as the ink you are putting in and the old ink you are removing, may not be exactly the same and a slight difference in the additives may cause the printer jets to clog if they are mixed. So all old ink must be removed, only then can the cartridge be refilled.
How can we put more ink in than the original? Maybe the next question, well original ink cartridge manufacturers make a few versions of the same cartridge, they are all identical size and shape but contain different amounts of ink, there may be a cheaper low capacity version, a standard version and a high capacity version, each sold at different prices to suit the customers pocket, what we at Printcartridgedirect do is simply sell one version, a full remanufactured ink cartridge, filled to capacity, with as much ink as the ink cartridge will reasonably hold. The recycled ink cartridge is then print tested, sealed and is ready for us to dispatch.
So next time you are tempted to use a printer cartridge refill kit and do it yourself, remember its not as simple as you would imagine and do you really want to spoil your clothes or new carpet, plus removing ink from the ceiling is rather difficult.
