Pigment printing ink is a type of ink that gets its colour from solid pigment particles suspended in a liquid carrier, rather than from dissolved dyes.
It’s widely used in inkjet printing, especially where durability and longevity matter.
Pigment printing ink typically contains:
Pigments – tiny, insoluble colour particles
Binder (resin/polymer) – helps the pigment stick to the surface
Liquid carrier – usually water (sometimes solvent-based)
Additives – improve flow, drying, and stability
Unlike dye ink, the colour does not dissolve into the liquid.
The ink sits on or near the surface of the paper or material
The binder locks the pigment particles in place as it dries
This creates a stable, long-lasting image
✅ Fade resistant – excellent UV and light stability
✅ Water resistant – once dry, it won’t easily run
✅ Sharp text – ideal for documents and barcodes
✅ Archival quality – suitable for long-term storage
⚠️ Slightly less vibrant colours than dye inks
⚠️ Higher cost
⚠️ Can clog print heads if printers aren’t used regularly
